Take a few minutes to personalize the prayers that we have been working on the past few days. Please put your grandchild’s name in the appropriate places (marked by parentheses). Add the correct pronouns and take a minute to write this prayer out for each grandchild adding some of your own heartfelt petitions.
I realize it may look a little confusing, but it might serve as a good template for using the Lord’s Prayer as you pray for your grandchildren.
Someday you may want to give a copy to your grandchild.
Our Father,
May ( ) understand that You are their Heavenly Father. May he/she understand that you are a loving Father, unlike any Father he/she may have ever known. May ( ) always speak your name with reverence and love and respect.
May ( ) be focused on You and Your Kingdom rather than the material and power seeking kingdoms of this world. May his/her heart be set on things above. As he/she are faced with choices and temptations, we ask Lord that ( ) may choose Your will over his/her own will.
We ask that You will always graciously meet ( ) physical, emotional and spiritual needs. May his/her hearts turn to You daily.
Father, I pray that ( ) life will be characterized by forgivenesss. May he/she humbly admit the need and totally immere themselves in your forgiveness for them. May my grandchild experience the freedom that is offered in the forgiveness of Christ.
May ( ) live out this forgiveness by freely and continuously extending it to others. May his/her life be marked by the giving and receiving of forgiveness.
Father, guide my grandchild in “paths of righteousness.” Walk beside him/her and nudge this child when they veer from the path. When the temptation to dismiss your leading is strong , please deliver ( ) from his/her own misunderstanding or selfishness. Father, we ask that in your mercy that you would keep ( ) safe.
May this precious child sit in Your Presence, fixing his/her eyes on the One who is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and forever.
Amen.
