Hot Cranberry Apple Cider

Posted on: November 15th, 2011 by Kay Swatkowski

Two weeks ago, my grandson walked in our house on Halloween and reminded me of the hot cider we had last year!  So….

Get out your crockpot and stir up a batch of hot cider!  The addition of cranberry juice adds a tart dimension that is great!  You can find a variety of recipes on the internet for hot cider.  They are all very straightforward.  But, give this one a try.

8 cups of apple juice

6 cups of cranberry juice

1/4 cup of brown sugar (I always add more)

2 or 3  orange slices

Tie 8 whole cloves and 4 cinnamon sticks into some cheesecloth and drop into the liquid.

Turn crockpot on high for about 1 hour and then turn low for as long as you would like to keep it warm.  I often remove the spices and orange slices after a couple of hours so that they do not overwhelm the apple and cranberry juice.  Just keep testing the flavor until it is just the way you like it.  Feel free to add a bit more sugar if it is too tart.

The house smells wonderful as it simmers.

I am printing this out for my holiday season! Thank you!

    • Linda, you are welcome! We love it. We always adjust a bit here and there because sometimes the cider is sweet—sometimes tart–so just play around with the recipe. Have a great Thanksgiving.
