The Great Backyard Bird Count

Posted on: January 15th, 2012 by Kay Swatkowski

The Great Backyard Bird Count is sponsored by The Audobon Society

It takes place this year from Friday February 17th through Monday February 20th.

This is a great opportunity to have some winter fun in nature.

Counters spend at least 15 minutes a day outdoors counting and recording whatever birds they see. They can count all four days if they are able.

Then, kids can enter their count on the Great Backyard Bird Count Website.

You will be able to track the progress on maps as other kids enter their own counts.

Invite an adult to participate with you,  Or if you are a parent or grandparent, round up the kids to be involved in the bird count.  It is a great nature experience and will be unforgettable to your child.

Check it out at  http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/kids

They not only explain the bird count, they give some good ideas for additional activities.

Let’s start counting!   If you count, be sure to come back to this site and enter your counts.  It will be fun to see the birds you have seen in the midwest.
