Great-Grandma Prayed

Posted on: May 23rd, 2012 by Kay Swatkowski

As I have recently read through some old family papers and genealogies, I have come across some paragraphs written about my great-grandmother, Mary Etta Marsh Morton.  They lived on a farm that had been given to them in 1888 by my great-great-grandfather, Rezin Morton.  Every morning great-grandma’s 6 boys would go out to work on the farm in the northern panhandle of West Virginia.  Before they left the house and headed to the field,  she would read the Bible and pray with them.  Although she died shortly before I was born, her influence was felt in the family for many years.

I hope someday my children and grandchildren will be able to say that I followed in Great-Grandma Mary Etta’s footsteps.  I hope they will be able to say that Grandma prayed.

Thanx for the great picture. I really enjoyed it, as well as the story behind it. I have seen this photo before. Many years ago.

So cool! Think this was taken in 1938 on their 50th wedding anniversary.
